FAQ

  • What is DPC?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a more efficient way to provide primary care medical services when and where the patient needs them. Patients and their DPC Doctor contract directly without added costs and interference from middlemen. Patients join a DPC practice as a member and receive ongoing primary care services without copays or surprise bills.

  • What is included in my membership?

Hassle Free, convenient primary care when and where you need it. Members receive same day/next day appointments, extended appointments if desired, personal communication with the doctor (text, email, phone, video visits).

  • Do I still need Insurance?

Yes, because membership in a DPC practice is NOT health insurance, although it can make accessing quality primary care more affordable and convenient. Insurance is needed for high expense items that a person would otherwise be unable to afford, so we still recommend having a HSA or catastrophic insurance at a minimum so that you have appropriate coverage if an unpredictable disaster strikes.

  • I Have Insurance, why would I want to pay to join Bold City DPC?

Insurance programs were developed to cover unpredictable high cost services which people couldn’t otherwise afford. Health Insurance provides peace of mind and can rescue us in times of crisis, however when used for day to day medical care (80-90% of our medical needs!), it complicates things by adding unnecessary red tape and expense. Removing Primary Care from this burdensome system frees up a huge amount of resources (time and money) for you and your doctor. This allows Bold City DPC to provide you with incredible service at an affordable price. Paying directly for primary care services may also allow you to restructure your insurance to lower your monthly premium by raising the deductible. This saves the average patient 20 - 30% of their health care spending and gives them something that they can actually use!

  • I only see the Dr. a few times a year, why can’t I pay cash for those visits?

The direct care model works to keep the costs down for all patients because everyone is paying a monthly fee. This allows the total membership costs to stay relatively low, and keeps the offices expenses paid so we can offer a full range of services. Some patients may feel that they only need the doctor on a minimal basis but this can change very quickly with a bad bronchitis, new injury or other unexpected medical problem. Life is unpredictable but having a DPC doctor means that you are covered when you need it. DPC is also ideal for “healthy” patients because we have more time to devote to prevention and lifestyle issues allowing us to focus on your wellness and longevity. Our greatest value is in keeping you out of the medical system.

  • How do I know Bold City DPC will be a good fit for me?

Come meet the doctor! We have free informational sessions twice monthly at our office.

  • Does Membership at Bold City DPC satisfy ACA requirement?

    No.

  • Why monthly fees?

In the current healthcare system, doctors are incentivized to see as many patients as possible during the day. After all, it is a business.  Your doctor is reimbursed by your insurance company (at an undisclosed negotiated rate) when they see you - and only when they see you.  Often times, the doctor does not even know these negotiated rates off the top of their head.  Adding a strep test, depression screen or review of lab work increases the cost of the visit - and because of deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, patients often get bills later.  Dr. Nields himself has been the patient dealing with these unpredictable bills - and it's not only stressful, but frustrating!

Having a low monthly membership fee, allows us to operate the practice on a day-to-day basis and build-in costs  so you don't receive unplanned bills.  Our goal is to be transparent with our pricing and services, all while offering our patients the luxurious healthcare previously only dreamed of: extended appointments, full access to your physician (not a nurse help line), relaxing clinic atmosphere and a partner in your healthcare decisions.

But if your prefer to structure your budget with one-time purchases, we also offer a yearly membership plan - and at a discount!
